"In a world that tells folks that their tongue is broken, Hazel the Aura shines you a mosaic."—
"Read the entire book in one sitting. So many great pieces!!!"—Hailey Livingston
"An amazing introspection . . . She shows it how it is, NOT how she thinks it should be. This is a great book that anyone can relate to. Highly recommend!"—Philip Dykhouse, author of Bury Me Here
Hazel The Aura's first book, NEXT HOOD OVER, is an explosion in Philadelphia's literary scene. NEXT HOOD OVER is an ode to the low-income neighborhoods in Philadelphia. The poems speak in the tongue of grandmothers, corner stores, churches, schoolyards, courtrooms and children wasting summers in play. The dialect that echoes Philly is African American Vernacular English—the language of her father and her father’s mother binding bits of conversation and images from memories. Celebrate with her as we journey through the parts of her city that people too often overlook and undervalue.
Philadelphia native, Hazel The Aura is an award winning poet, vocalist, producer songwriter and teaching artist.
