Just finished The Father! Very high quality writing, believable, and heartbreaking, esp hitting me emotionally most around the time he returns and looks into his old bedroom and hears about his dad. I read it pretty much in one 4-hr plane ride. Kept me going. It was easy to read and was deep. The poetry, man. The poetry of it. The poetry is similar to, but I like it better than, The Road (Cormac McCarthy). More succinct and less self-indulgent. And it also has a lot of similar themes/storyline as The Road, which I'm still only 2/3 thru :) nicely done with this one!
Or this one by Santiago E.:
Beautiful book. Saw myself retelling the story over and over in my head. Loved it.
We're also experimenting a lot with Facebook and Instagram advertising. What we're learning so far is that we can get A LOT of eyes (and likes!) on a post (this post got over a thousand likes!), but what we have to figure out next is how to convert those likes into actual customers of the book. This is actually slightly more complicated than you might think because Amazon does not tell us (why oh why!?) where our sales are directly coming from. So, we don't get to actually know if a sale came from an email blast or from from a Facebook ad. Ah well, c'est la vie. Eventually, we hope to sell the book from this very website, and then we'll know EXACTLY where our sales came from. But, for now, we work with what we've got!
We're also working on developing a social media calendar and then (drumroll) community outreach for the book—and for Toho Publishing itself. We need to find places that will review the book, radio shows/podcasts that will interview the author, readings the author (well, me, in this case) can attend and read at, and magazines we post articles in. It's amazing just how much there is to do! But, we're enjoying it, and in the end, this is how you get a book out into the world!
By the way, if you'd like to be a guest blogger here, please let us know! We'd be happy to host you. Happy holidays!
