How to Persist

Updated: Aug 30

Despite it all.

Well, folks, Andrés Cruciani of Toho Publishing here, and today, our intern starts (you can read her first blog post here). We welcome her. But I wanted to write today, briefly, about how to persist.

There are days that no matter how much you've got planned, how much you've accomplished, how much lies ahead, the day seems bleak. Perhaps you just wake up without the motivation. Perhaps the weight of all the tasks you've been given and assigned yourself feels overwhelming. Perhaps life has taken a difficult turn. Perhaps nothing seems better than just staying in bed. Perhaps ...

One of the things I've learned in life is this: It's exactly those days when the motivation is not there, when the tasks ahead are overwhelming and Sisyphean, that I must thank my thoughts (for the fear they represent), say a literal "Thank you", and get up. I do. I get up and, breaking down every gigantic project into tiny steps, I take a step at a time. Things get done. Despite myself, we move forward.

Those days, when the motivation does not present itself, I regard everything I do that day as a miracle. Every conversation and opportunity presented: another miracle. That morning cup of coffee, the same.

It is. It all is. Onwards.
