From Life to the Page—Writing Creative Nonfiction (Course Extension!)
Time & Location
About the Event
***This course is an extension of the original "Writing Creative Nonfiction" course.***
Personal essays? Memoirs? Vignettes? Flash nonfiction?
Whatever you label your writing, this class will help you uncover your stories and turn them into fresh, readable prose. Your writing will lead to a deeper understanding of your story and an accounting to share with others: loved ones, a broader audience, perhaps just yourself.
Through teacher guidance, in-class writing, and at-home responsive writing, the group will write, share, and fine-tune at least two pieces. And through supportive critiquing, class participants will share feedback while the teacher works individually with each piece.
If there is interest, this class will culminate with a small publication for its members. This class is limited to 6 students.
4 weeks, dates and times TBD
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Nancy Rasmussen has written personal essays since she took her first writing class in the University of Colorado’s Continuing Education Program. She then taught nonfiction article writing through the same program before moving to Philadelphia and teaching in the continuing education departments at Temple Center City and The University of the Arts. She currently teaches memoir writing through MALT (Mt. Airy Learning Tree) and freelances as an editor. Before leaving Colorado, she wrote weekly interview pieces for The Denver Post and was an assistant editor for a scholarly book publisher. In both cities, Nancy wrote and proofread for alumni magazines.
